Object Pronouns in English

Let’s learn about object pronouns.

object pronouns

The job of pronouns is to replace nouns. You already know about Subject Pronouns. The subject of a sentence is who or what does the action. And we can replace the subject with a pronoun to avoid repeating the word.

Object pronouns serve the same function, but replace the object in a sentence. The object is who or what receives the action.

An easy way to identify subjects and objects in normal, active sentences is to remember that subjects come before verbs, and that if there is an object, it will be after the verb.

Look at how we can use the pronouns to replace the subjects and objects in the following sentences:

subject pronouns, object

Does James know Mary?
Yes, he knows her very well.

Can you and I meet with Frank and Tom tomorrow?

Let’s practice.
