Let’s look at how and why we use the Past Continuous Tense in English.
The Past Continuous is formed by:
Subject + to be (in Past form) + the gerund form of the verb.
We use the Past Continuous for various things.
1.) to talk about an action that was occurring at a specific time in the past
2.) to refer to two actions occurring at the same time in the past
3.) to talk about an action that was occurring that was interrupted
4.) to mention details that aren’t especially relevant
