
As…As Conjunctions and Comparisons
You are probably already familiar with as + adjective/adverb + as to make equal comparisons. So now, let’s learn and practice using as…as in new ways.
as well as
Meaning: and, in addition to
Example: Marcus is responsible for the prep-cooking, as well as doing the dishes.
as long as
Meaning: 1.) if, if a condition is met, 2.) the same length
Examples:
1.) Samantha will be a doctor, as long as she passes her exams.
2.) The soldiers marched as long as they could before making camp for the night.
as soon as
Meaning: at the same time, soon after
Example: The secretary will pass along your message as soon as the manager arrives.
as far as
Meaning: 1.) to the extend or degree that, 2.) regarding, 3.) the same distance
Examples:
1.) The supervisor is honest and fair, as far as we know.
2.) As far as work goes, being a hair dresser doesn’t pay very well.
3.) The warehouse was full of workers. There were people as far as I could see.

Examples:

as much as / as much + non-count noun + as
Meaning: A comparison of large quantities
Examples:
1.) The scientists researched the phenomenon to gain knowledge about it. They wanted to learn as much as they could.
2.) Our accountant told us that, if the trend continues, we will have as much money as we’ll need for the new project.
as little as / as little + non-count noun + as
Meaning: A comparison of small quantities
Examples:
1.) I think we can set up the business for as little as $1,000.00.
2.) The police officers interacted with the protesters as little as necessary.
as few as / as few + count noun + as
Meaning: A comparison of small quantities
Examples:
1.) The manager doesn’t want any more complains, or at least as few as possible.
2.) The firefighters train every day so that they have as few accidents as they can.
